(1856)] The Council consisted, then, of Director Kieft and Monsieur La Montangie; the Director had two votes and Mr. La Montangie one; and yet !it was a high crime to appeal from their judgments. Gornelis van der Hooykens sat with them as Fiscal, and Cornells van Thienhoven as Secretary. And, moreover, whenever anything extraordinary came up, the Director had a few additional invited, according to his pleasure; these were mostly officers of the Company.
