Croton Point, 1898
This article features a historical map of "Teller's Point or Croton Point" created by Edward Hagaman Hall for an 1898 magazine article in The Spirit of '76. The map documents roads, buildings, and fifteen numbered points of historic interest.
Hall was a journalist and preservation advocate involved with several organizations during the early 1900s. He championed the "City Beautiful movement" and worked to preserve New York's aesthetic heritage.
The ASHPS held an option to purchase Croton Point in 1917 and published an article advocating for "a public park on Croton Point." The map identifies significant locations including Revolutionary War sites, residences (the Underhill Homestead, Linden Cottage), archaeological finds (multiple cannonballs and a musket ramrod), and natural landmarks including Squaw Point and Picnic Point.
