Underhill Bible - on eBay!
A seller on eBay offered a bible bearing the bookplate of Abraham I. Underhill, one of three brothers who established a flour mill on the Croton River in 1792 under a Van Cortlandt family lease.
The bible contained handwritten documentation of Abraham Underhill's marriage "in a publick Meeting of the people called Quakers at Croton in the Town of Cortlandt, the 19th day of the 12th month, 1805 according to the order of the said society," along with birth records for their son, Edward Burrough Underhill, born four years later.
The listing also included an unusual folded paper described as possibly containing shorthand in an unknown hand.
An update noted that the Westchester County Historical Society purchased the item for their collection.
