[J. Thomas Scharf (1886)] The house stood on a high ridge overlooking the Hudson and was surrounded by an extensive and well-shaded lawn. This school was established by Mrs. E. A. Pentz in September 1878. The following year Miss Bazley became asso-ciated with her. A full course in Latin, mathemat-ics, the natural sciences and belles-lettres was given. The modern languages, music, drawing, and painting were also taught. Average number of pupils forty.
