[J. Thomas Scharf (1886)] The number of original members was ten. The congregation first met in a room hired of Aaron Travis, corner of South and Division Streets, and afterward in an upper room in a house on Divi-sion Street, hired of James Brown. The site of the present church was bought of James Brewer May 1, 1844, and a house of worship was begun, which was finished and occupied in April, 1846. The next year the church was dedicated.
