Dr. O'Calla-gban presented the writer with two seals taken from documents signed by Oloff Stevense in 1061, and Stephanos Van Cortlandt 1664, both bearing the family arms. The use of the arms on official documents, thus publicly made, shows the unquestionable and undisputed right of the Van Cortlandts to bear them. lt> Arms of Van Cortlandt : Argent, four wings of niell, sable and gules (forming St. Andrew's Cross), five estoiles gules.
