Thomas Scharf (1886)] He then entered as a clerk the carpet establishment of Benjamin Clinton, in New York City, remaining with the house till its failure, two years later, when he returned to Peekskill and was employed by his father in the manufac-ture of plows in his fac-tory. Here he continued till 1851, in which year he married Miss Leah B. Carpenter, daughter of William Carpenter, and removed to a farm which he had purchased at Yorktown. He has since resided there, attending
