[J. Thomas Scharf (1886)] Bailey chooses a quiet, practical farmer's life and loves his comfortable home and its surroundings. Villages and Post-Offices. — The town has four hamlets and post-offices, viz. : North Salem, Salem Centre, Croton Falls and Purdy's. The two latter are situated on the extreme eastern boundary, and are stations on the line of the Harlem Railroad. The first named is in the northeastern section and is a small hamlet, surrounded by a farming community.
