Thomas Scharf (1886)] Richbell was not inclined to yield his claims upon the territory, and petitioned Governor Dongan to grant an order to clear it, as he was " wholly obstructed and hindered by Rye men," who had " made a great Disturbance amongst them and Pretends a right to the same." The inhabitants of Rye were summoned to show cause why the lands in dispute should not of right belong and appertain to Mr. Richbell. The controversy seems to have remained unsettled.
