[Edward Manning Ruttenber (1872)] The district inhabited by the Mame-kotings was west of the Shawangunk mountains and is still known as the Mamakating valley. Their history is so intimately blended with that of the Esopus Indians that identification is impossible further than by title. They were evidently one of the " five tribes," and may be designated as the third. 4th. The W aw ar sinks* The fourth of the Esopus chieftain cies, the TVawarsinks, inhabited the district of country which still bears their name. Separate from the Esopus Indians they have no history.
