[Edward Manning Ruttenber (1872)] occurred about 1750. The most distinguished man of the Mabicans was Captain HENDRIK AUPAUMUT, subsequently known as Captain HEN DRIK, who appears to have sustained the most important rela tion to his tribe and to the nation for nearly half a century.2 Of his birth and parentage nothing is known.
