Archivist summary: John Macdonald visits the office of Aaron Ward, an attorney who served as a general officer in the New York State Militia and represented Westchester County for four terms in the United States House of Representatives. During his visit he encounters “young Mr. Van Wyck,” presumably a grandson of Abraham Van Wyck and Catherine Van Cortlandt. Catherine Van Cortlandt was a sister of Philip Van Cortlandt, who ended the Revolutionary War as a Brevet Brigadier General in the Continental Army.
