Archivist summary: Alexander Van Wart (1799-1890) was a son of Isaac Van Wart, one of the three American militiamen who captured British Major John André in 1780. He notes that he never heard his father explain the precise route that André took en route to his capture after he left the White Plains and Pines Bridge Road, the last leg of his journey in the present Town of Mount Pleasant. Van Wart concludes by suggesting that John Macdonald speak to a Mrs. Campbell.
