He concludes by discussing a “Captain Buchanan of the water guard,” who was frequently at Tarrytown and skirmished with the Refugees. Editorial note: “Twitching’s four corners” was located at the present Sprain Brook Parkway exit on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Mount Pleasant. During the Revolutionary War, Stevens Avenue extended eastward from Saw Mill River Road toward Wright’s Mills in North Castle.
The home of Cornelius Van Tassel was burned by the British in 1777. The Romer-Van Tassel House was built on the site after the war.
